To be eligible to receive support from the Swindon and Wiltshire Phoenix Project, the child or young person must meet the below criteria;
Referral criteria
- be a resident in the Swindon Borough Council or Wiltshire County Council area.
- be in a safe and stable place in their life to allow our therapeutic recovery work to have the maximum impact.
- no longer be experiencing/at risk of further sexual abuse or child exploitation.
- not be subject of a current child protection plan at point of referral. However, if child or young person is up stepped to a child protection plan, we will continue with the support to ensure continuity of care.
- We work with children and young people from 0 up to 18 years. If the child is under 5 years we will work with the parent of the infant.
- not be already receiving another specialist, therapeutic support service. This can cause confusion and be detrimental to the healing/recovery process. (We will consider partnership working/step down work in some instances)
We are unable to offer counselling sessions when:
- A child protection plan is in place - we will work with a step down approach and will never end our work if a child or young person is stepped up to child protection level
- You are already receiving counselling therapy - It can cause confusion to have two therapies going on for a young person at the same time and is not helpful to recovery
- You are still in contact with the perpetrator – it is important that a child or young person is safe from the perpetrator and able to engage in a recovery process – this does not apply to peer on peer abuse/assault as we are aware that at times they will be attending the same school.
If you are unsure if a young person meets this criteria, please contact us for a discussion on 01793 915125 - We will be happy to talk this over with you.
