About our counselling and trauma recovery work
We recognise that it takes courage and strength to ask for help. One of the most important aspects of trauma is recognising that life has changed in some way and maybe the world doesn’t seem to make much sense. You will never be forced to talk about what happened if you do not want to. You might choose to focus on the impact of trauma such as anxiety or difficulties attending school.
Counselling will provide the opportunity to talk in confidence to someone who is trained to listen. Counselling can help you make sense of what you are feeling about the difficulties you are experiencing or have experienced in your life. Your counsellor will also support you to recognise your strengths and things you enjoy.
Sometimes talking about difficult situations, feelings and thoughts can help reduce the pain caused. Everyone experiences and responds to trauma in different ways and it can cause feelings of distress, fear, helplessness and loss of control. Your counsellor will support you to manage strong feelings safely.
With your counsellor you will work in a confidential space where you will be able to talk openly about feelings which aren't always understood by family and friends.
Our trauma recovery work is based on psychoeducation and supports the understanding of trauma and they will help you to develop and use coping strategies that work for you.
Thank you so much for all the support you gave me. I don’t think I would’ve been able to do without talking to you. You helped me so much
